Expect the best but prepare for the worst.<br />There are a lot of things we can do to prepare for the storm. Here is a short list of important things to keep in mind for before, during and after the storm.<br /><br /><ul><li>Plan ahead and don't wait for the last minute.</li><li> Gather valuables, important paperwork (especially the insurance policy) and essential medication.</li><li>Get a 4 day supply of food and water for the entire family.</li><li>Study the evacuation routes.</li><li>Fill up your gas tank and get your car ready.</li><li>Fill up additional gas containers, in case of shortage after the storm.</li><li>Locate the closet shelter to you home.Just in case, make sure they will take you in with your pets.</li><li>Put sand bags in front of doors and sliders.</li><li>Fill up your bathtub and water bottles and containers, as water might become contaminated during the storm. </li><li>Try to raise every thing of the floor, in case of flooding.</li><li>Unplug electrical equipment and appliances, in case of power surges.</li><li>Get batteries for radio, flashlights, etc.</li><li>Charge your cellphone's battery.</li><li>Get candles.</li><li>Get a first aid kit ready.</li><li>Communicate with your family and have a plan in case of an emergency.</li><li>Secure your home and board up your windows.</li><li>During the storm pick a room in the center of the home that has no windows.</li><li>DO NOT USE YOU GENERATOR INSIDE, IT WILL KILL YOU.</li></ul>And most importantly use common sense.
